Innova Crysta And Yaris Help Toyota Achieve Triple Digit Growth In June 2018

Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold a total of 13088 units in the domestic market this month of June 2018. The company exported 1014 units of the Etios series this month thus clocking a total of 14102 units. Royal Enfield Continental GT 535 To Be Discontinued Globally

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 535 was a turning point for the motorcycle maker when it first arrived in late 2013, but the model is now heading towards the end of its shelf life. While we told you back in January this year that production of the Continental GT 535 was stopped along with sales in India, exports did continue. However, a report by DriveMag now suggests that the cafe racer will be pulled off the shelves globally. The discontinued CGT 535 will make way for the upcoming Continental GT 650 that was unveiled at EICMA 2017, and will be launched first in Europe in the following months before making its way to India later in the year.

The Continental GT was a bold move by Royal Enfield that was known for its old-school cruisers until then, and also saw the company dig deeper into its heritage of British motorcycles. Royal Enfield's flagship motorcycle currently, the Continental GT 535 hasn't been a brisk seller as far as volumes are concerned with the much expensive Harley-Davidson Street 750 beating the former in domestic monthly sales month-on-month. Nevertheless, the more powerful Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is expected to change that with the revised yet retro styling and the new 650 cc parallel-twin engine shared with the Interceptor 650.

So, if you were still planning to purchase the Royal Enfield Continental GT 535, it's not too late. The cafe racer comes with a 535 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 29 bhp and 44 Nm of peak torque. The motor comes paired to a 5-speed gearbox. The bike uses telescopic forks up front and twin shocks at the rear, while braking performance comes from discs at either end. The international-spec CGT 535 also gets ABS as standard.

Hyundai Rumoured To Buy Fiat Chrysler Automobiles

The global automotive power corridors have been awash with the rumour of the Hyundai group looking to buy out FCA - Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. The Hyundai group currently consists of Hyundai, Kia and Hyundai's parts division Mobis. The Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Group on the other hand consists of manufacturers like Fiat, Chrysler, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Iveco, Maserati and of course, its most profitable car company - Jeep. According to a report by AsiaTimes, the Korean automaker has been waiting for the FCA share prices to drop to a certain figure before 'launching a takeover bid' for the Italian-American auto conglomerate. Incidentally, this isn't the first time we have heard about an FCA buyout or merger in the recent past.

(Hyundai could become the world's largest automaker post merger with FCA)

The FCA group, led by CEO Sergio Marchionne has been looking for a merger for a few years now. The FCA group has been linked (for mergers) with other auto groups like General Motors and even rumours of similar mergers with the Volkswagen Group. The Jeep brand, which is currently the most profitable auto brand under the FCA umbrella too has received offers for a buyout from the likes of Chinese automakers like Great Wall. Incidentally, Sergio Marchionne will be stepping down as the CEO and retiring in May 2019 at the annual FCA investor meeting and reports suggest that the Hyundai 'takeover bid' will happen before that meeting. Supercar maker Ferrari however has been spun off as a separate entity a few years ago and even though FCA management to a certain degree controls it, the automaker might not be a part of this takeover.

(Jeep is the most profitable arm of FCA Group)

Rumours also suggest that the Hyundai takeover bid is being led by Paul Singer, the head of Elliott Management, which owns over a Billion Dollar stake in the Hyundai group. Paul Singer also owns a major stake in Telecom Italia and owns the football club AC Milan. The FCA CEO for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Aftredo Altavilla is also on the board of Telecom Italia. While these are still rumours and both FCA and Hyundai have refused to officially comment on the matter, this merger could made the Hyundai-FCA group the largest automaker in the world overtaking the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance and automakers like Toyota and Volkswagen.

Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo Sets Record Time At The Nurburgring

Records seem to be tumbling and the Nurburgring seems to be the place for it. With 5 minutes and 19.55 seconds on the stopwatch Timo Bernhard crossed the finish line of the Nurburgring-Nordschleife at the wheel of the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo. With this achievement, the two-times Le Mans winner and reigning World Endurance Champion has beaten the lap record on the revered 20.8 kilometre long German race circuit that stood for 35 years. It was on May 28 in 1983, Stefan Bellof lapped the world-renowned track with a Porsche 956 C in a legendary time of 6:11.13 minutes.

The Duke of Richmond and Gordon, founder of Goodwood Festival of Speed said, "We are honored to have the Eagle Squadron Mustang GT making its debut at Goodwood. The car was inspired by the American volunteer pilots who fought with the RAF in World War II, while Goodwood's RAF Westhampnett hosted US Airforce squadrons too, so it is completely appropriate to have the car here in this, our Silver Jubilee year, while the RAF celebrates its centenary."

Opinion: Electric Vehicle Makers In India Need To Think Long Term

It was a bold statement by the Government of India when it said that Electric vehicles are going to be the future; the near future that is. The deadline for all internal combustion engines was 2030, which everyone said was ambitious and the sceptics said 'impossible'. And that's when Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) came into the picture and the government decided to procure electric cars from manufacturers in India and make them available to government officials, which according to us was an extremely logical move. Now, comes the good part, Mahindra was already into this segment with the e2O Plus and the eVerito and had the required expertise and manufacturing capabilities to provide the cars required by EESL. Tata Motors too jumped onto this opportunity and saw to it that it brought out the electric version of the Tigor while also making sure that it was manufactured in India at the company's Sanand plant. The milestones started piling with the first batch rolling out earlier this year and both manufacturers keeping their word on delivery dates making way for phase II of this project. It all looked promising so much so that even the 'owl critic' had to stand up and take notice.

Also Read: Government Officials Reject Using Electric Cars Under EESL Scheme

But then reports started flying in thick and fast about the unsatisfactory performance and mileage of the Tigor Electric Vehicles (EV) from Tata Motors procured by EESL for use by Government officials and also the fact that these very officials refused to use them for travel as a result. For many, it was an 'I told you so' moment, but for those looking forward to this change, it certainly was a tad bit disappointing. An office conversation on this went along the lines of "Are we ready to embrace electric cars?", "Should we even think about buying an electric car from Tata or Mahindra?" to others stating the obvious "Electric cars will never work in India"

mahindra zoomcar mou

Mahindra offers e2O and eVerito electric cars in India

All these are very relevant questions and frankly, we find ourselves in a bit of a spot when we have to answer them. Electric cars are cool, super cool, and there's no doubting their future as they're going to play a big part but all this development only to regress and trace your footsteps and begin from square one? Of course, there's been a lot of talk post that about the Tigor EV's performance and finally Tata Motors has decided to tell its side of the story. The company issued a statement saying that based on its interaction with the customers and EESL, the company had not heard range as a major concern.

It went on to say that "We believe that EESL, after intensive consultation of experts, was able to strike the optimum balance between meeting the daily running requirements of the end-users and most importantly, price accessibility, finalized the tender specifications. Tata Motors has supplied the Tigor EVs to EESL in line with the specifications provided in the tender."

Also Read: EESL To Supply Electric Vehicles To Telangana, Madhya Pradesh And Rajasthan

Making its stance clear, Tata Motors says that everything was done by the book. It even clears out doubts of range on a single charge by stating research findings show that with an overnight charging, a range of 130 km can be reached. Whereas the average running for a personal use in a day is around 50-60 kms. It, therefore, comes to the conclusion that is more than adequate to meet the daily requirement. If one required more range, the battery would cost more and well the cost of the car would go up. The Tigor EV then was custom-made o the EESL tender and so you can't fault Tata for issues with range. But shouldn't have these solutions be thought of earlier? When the world is moving towards a range of 500 km on a single charge on production cars, we in India can't make it go for 130. In a realistic scenario where a person has to travel for more than 60 km on a daily basis, the car is no less thirsty than your phone then. You'll have to save and choose if you need the air-conditioning, the lights or charge your phone, because well, everything inside will be battery operated, right?

India is not the first country to start adopting electric cars. Developed countries like Norway too have adopted them and it happened in stages. It first moved to plug-in hybrid and then to pure electric cars. Of course, government incentives helped in making a case for EVs. All electric cars and vans are exempt in Norway from all non-recurring vehicle fees, including purchase taxes, and 25 per cent VAT on a purchase, together making electric car purchase price competitive with conventional cars.

China too is making it easier for its population to buy electric cars. BYD, in fact, is all set to open the world's largest battery factory in China and that means supply will cater to the demand. In India, however, we face problems, right from government incentives to the localisation of products. Of course, in the future, as the battery prices keep coming down, the car prices too will fall down, but why can't we use existing expertise to expedite the problem.

Short-term solutions for the automotive industry just won't work. Yes, faster adoption is important but at what cost? We all want to see India have a bigger piece of the pie when it comes to EVs an there are steps taken in that direction. The fact that Suzuki is setting up a battery plant in India shows the level of commitment to the EV sector. Car makers like Mercedes-Benz and even Hyundai are planning to build electric cars in India; so yes, electric cars are here to stay, but short-term goals are not really the solution. While the buck keeps passing on whose problem.

2019 Norton 650 Atlas Scrambler Announced

British motorcycle manufacturer Norton will unveil a prototype for a new scrambler model with a 650 cc, parallel-twin engine in November 2018. So far, only finished engineering sketches have been released of the bike, a scrambler model which uses a name used for the 1963 Norton scrambler. Norton Motorcycles released the sketches with the promise that the bike will be revealed at the NEX bike show in the UK in November 2018, with deliveries in the UK set to begin by 2019.

Technical specifications of the Norton Atlas 650 haven't been announced yet, but it has been widely reported that the Atlas will be powered by a new 650 cc parallel-twin engine which will put out between 70 bhp and 100 bhp, depending on the version. So far, there are no further details on any more plans about the Atlas 650, but Norton is expected to make the bike available across the world, and hopefully, including India. But all that will depend on how the bike is eventually priced, or if it would be even assembled under Norton's partnership with Kinetic Motoroyale. What the Atlas 650 will face, as competition in India, will be Royal Enfield's 650 cc twins, as well as Triumph's modern classic range. But the Atlas 650 is expected to be a lot more expensive than what the Royal Enfield 650 cc twins will be priced at, once they are launched.

For now, Norton maintains that the Atlas will be priced competitively to make it attractive not only in the UK, but to markets across the world. In India, Norton bikes will be assembled under the Kinetic-Norton joint venture, in which Kinetic holds a 51 per cent majority stake, with Norton holding the remaining 49 per cent. Under the JV, motorcycles will be assembled in India from completely knocked down (CKD) kits, to be sold not only in India, but to be exported to other markets in the ASEAN region as well.

New-Gen Audi A8 To Be Launched In India By First Half Of 2019

Audi's much-anticipated flagship sedan, the A8, is now expected to be launched in India by the first half of 2019. The Head of Audi India, Rahil Ansari, told Carandbike.com that India will get the new A8 sedan within next 12 months, on the sidelines of the launch of the new Audi Q5 petrol. While initially the Audi A8 sedan was expected to be launched in India this year itself, the 12-month timeframe mentioned by Ansari indicates that the launch could take place in the first half of 2019.

The fourth generation of the Audi A8 was unveiled in July last year, followed by its first showcase at at the Audi Summit in Barcelona, and later we even got to drive the sedan in October 2017. Audi has also been testing the new-generation A8 in India for a while now, collecting data on how the car performs on Indian roads, as revealed by the exclusive spy images we shared with you back then.

Also Read: 2018 Audi A8 First Drive Review

Based on the Prologue concept, the carmaker showcased in 2016, the new Audi A8 comes with a bold and sporty design with flat roof dome, upright front end, a high shoulder line and a gently inclined rear. The exterior design is accentuated by a host of smart features like the single frame chrome grille, HD Matrix LED headlights and bold taillamps with OLED technology.

The A8's cabin, on the other hand, has also gone through a host of changes and offers a range of smart and modern equipment that have kicked things a notch higher. The new A8 gets a new and improved infotainment system and carmaker's popular Virtual Cockpit is now part of standard fitment. There are hardly any knobs or buttons for in-car controls and almost everything is accessed by the two screens placed on the centre console. As the car will be mainly a chauffeur-driven vehicle, the A8 L, in particular, gets the optional relaxation seat which features options for adjustment as well as a footrest, on the backrest, of the front passenger seat.

Globally, the Audi A8 offers three engine options - the 3.0-litre V6 petrol, 3.0-litre V6 diesel and a more powerful 4.0-litre V8, and we have been told that all three engines will be made available, in India. Given the growing demand for petrol cars in India, we believe that the diesel and petrol V6 will be introduced first. The former also gets limited hybrid assistance, thanks to the use of an alternator that doubles as a starter, an arrangement that powers a 48-volt electrical system.

Nissan GT-R50 Italdesign Concept Showcased

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Nissan GT-R and design house Italdesign, Nissan and the Italian design house have joined forces to make a one of a kind concept car. Called the Nissan GTR-50 Italdesign, the new concept not only showcases what a 'without limits' GT-R would look like but in all probability, previews what the next generation of the Japanese supercar would look like. The Nissan GT-R50 Italdesign is based on a new 2018 Nissan GT-R Nismo and takes the current generation GT-R's design cues and gives them a futuristic twist with a new design and electronically controlled aero. All in all, the concept certainly looks stunning - especially with the heavy use of carbonfibre.

nissan gt r50 italdesign

(Nissan GT-R50 Italdesign)

The Nissan GT-R50 Italdesign stands out from the hoards of brightly coloured concept cars with its rather simple and elegant grey and gild combination. The gold also lines the interior, the grille surrounds, rear view mirrors and bonnet vents. The golden accents also continue around the side vents in the front fenders and around the rear of the car from the roof all the way down to the splitter. The tell tale Nissan GT-R twin tail lamps are present but look a lot more modern and a lot more sculptured than ever before.

nissan gt r50 italdesign

(Nissan GT-R50 Italdesign Interiors)

Considering the fact that the Nissan GT-R in the past has showcased the same design elements for multiple generations, we would not be surprised if the new GT-R that is expected soon takes a lot of cues from the current version in general while improving on the details just like how the GT-R R34, R33 and R32 were all seemed like an evolving bodystyle.

nissan gt r50 italdesign

(Nissan GT-R50 Italdesign Rear Design with active aero)

One of the cooler and new features about the Nissan GT-R50 Italdesign is the rear wing. Controllable electronically with two large uprights, the wing sits flush with the bodywork when not in use and lifts up when downforce is necessary. We assume that the wing will also double up as an E-Brake. On the inside, the Nissan GT-R50 Italdesign apes the current car but with an evolutionary approach. The instrument cluster is now all-digital and bathed in a bright blue light while the seats are made from carbonfibre and are lined with leather and alcantara.

(Nissan GT-R50 Italdesign)

Under the hood is the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 engine from the current GT-R Nismo that now makes 710 bhp of peak power and 780 Nm of peak torque. The upgrades to the engine include competition turbochargers, new intercoolers, high flow jets, a new camshaft, forged pistons, conrods, bearings and a stronger gearbox with a new differential and drive shafts. Suspension has also been upgraded by Bilstein and the car also has Brembo brakes to make it stop.

The suspension on the Corolla Sport uses a MacPherson Strut suspension for the front and double wishbone suspension for the rear. The newly developed absorbers underwent 600 tests using different combinations of oils and components to achieve a comfortable drive and responsive steering. The Corolla Sport is also the first Toyota front-engine front-drive vehicle in Japan using Linear-solenoid-type AVS, which instantly adjusts the damping force for each wheel according to road surface and driving conditions to deliver a comfortable drive.

Steve McQueen's Iconic Triumph To Be Displayed In The UK

The iconic Triumph TR6R ridden by the Steve McQueen in 'The Great Escape' will be displayed in public for the first time since the film was released in 1963. The bike is currently on display at the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience at Triumph's Hinckley headquarters. The 1962 model Triumph motorcycle has not been shown publicly since the 'The Great Escape' was released in 1963, and will be displayed at the Concours d'Elegance at Salon Prive on August 30. The motorcycle will be competing in Class B of the event for exceptional motorcycles made between 1940 and 1979.

The Triumph TR6R is famous for one of the most memorable motorcycle scenes in celluloid, and was the star of the final scene of 'The Great Escape' where Steve McQueen's character tries to jump the bike over a barbed wire fence into Switzerland. McQueen, an accomplished racer himself, wanted to perform the stunt himself, but the film's insurers refused and eventually the stunt was performed by Bud Etkins.

In all, three bikes were used in the filming of 'The Great Escape'. The three bikes were all Triumphs - 650 cc, Triumph TR6R Trophy bikes - and were used to replicate German BMW R71s, since the BMW bikes were ill-suited for the stunt, and were not easily available as well. The Triumphs were lighter, faster and easy to ride, and were made to look like German military bikes.

The Salon Prive will be held in the gardens of Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire on the weekend of August 30 to September 1.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan Facelift To Get More Powerful Engine Variants In India

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan facelift will be launched soon in India and will get both petrol and diesel engines apart from the powerful biturbo V6 and V8 AMG engines. Until now, the standard, non-AMG C-Class was only offered in the C200 variant for the petrol and the C220d and C250d variant for the diesel. The new facelift C-Class however will be available with the C200 (with the new 1.5-litre engine) and C220d but will also get more powerful engine variants to choose from. The petrol will get the C300 variant - essentially the same engine from the C-Class Cabriolet while diesel fans will get a more powerful C300d replacing the current C250d.

mercedes benz c class c300

(Mercedes-Benz C-Class C300 and C300d to be offered in India)

The petrol C300 will be offered for the first time in the C-Class in India and will be a hark back to the time Mercedes-Benz India offered a larger and more performance oriented engine in the standard C-Class range. The engine, a 2-litre motor, will make 258 bhp of peak power and 370 Nm of peak torque. With the luxury car market inching towards petrol cars once again, it wont be surprising to see this engine become a popular offering for the Indian market. Especially since there are a fair few customers who want a petrol and might be put off by the idea of their luxury car sporting a tiny 1.5-litre motor that is available in the C200.

mercedes benz c class c300

(Mercedes-Benz C-Class C300 and C300d will not have 4Matic all-wheel-drive)

For diesel fans, there will be a new C300d, which again, just like the petrol, will be offered for the first time in India. The C300d is essentially the same 2-litre diesel engine on the C220 with a much higher state of tune making more power and more torque. It will replace the C250d as the flagship offering in India. The C300d will make 245 bhp of peak power and 500 Nm of peak torque and will most likely be the most expensive non-AMG Mercedes-Benz C-Class on offer in India. Expect the launch of the new C-Class facelift with these new engines very soon.

Honda Super Cub 125 Unveiled

Honda has unveiled the new Super Cub 125, the 125 cc version of the Honda Super Cub family. The Super Cub 125 will be powered by a 125 cc, two-valve, four-stroke, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine, which makes 9.5 bhp of power at 7,000 rpm and 10.4 Nm of peak torque at 5,250 rpm. The Super Cub 125 comes with a foot-operated transmission with four gears, with an automatic clutch, so no clutch lever is required. Honda claims fuel economy of 66.7 kmpl, with an effective range of over 245 kilometres from the 3.7-litre fuel tank.

"We know our customers, male or female, take their personal style seriously and we want our new Super Cub C125 to enrich their lifestyle. Its timeless design expresses value and universality, and we have added a new level of performance to the engine and handling ability to the chassis," said project leader Tadamasa Maeda.

"Just like it was for our founder, our biggest joy is to play a positive part in daily life - and also put a big smile on the face of every Super Cub owner whenever and wherever they ride it."

The Honda Super Cub 125 retains the familiar silhouette of the Super Cub and the original Honda Cub design, but there are modern touches; the headlight is all-LED now, and the instrument console is part analogue, part digital, and the seat height is 780 mm, to make it accessible to riders of different builds and height. The ignition is a keyless smart key system and the Super Cub 125 is expected to be offered on sale in Europe in two colour variants, but prices have not been announced yet.

The Honda Cub is the biggest and longest commercial success, first launched in 1958, ten years after the company was founded. It's the most successful two-wheeler model of all time, and last year, the Honda Cub achieved the unique milestone of producing 100 million units worldwide. The Honda Cub has been extremely popular in Japan, and throughout Asia, and even the Americas, but has not been quite so popular in Europe. As of now, there is no word on if Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) intends to launch either the Super Cub 125 or 110 in India. But going by the market response to similar step-through scooters or even motorcycles in India, it's unlikely that it will likely be launched in India, which is now the world's largest two-wheeler market by volume.

More Spy Pics Of KTM 390 Adventure

The upcoming KTM 390 Adventure has been spotted undergoing test runs in Europe several times in the past, and now some more images of a near-production prototype have emerged. And this time, the KTM 390 Adventure seems to be tested for real two-up touring with a pillion on board. The bike in the images seems to be almost production-ready with the LED headlight, rear view mirrors and fuel tank shrouds all intact, which may well be carried over in the current form to the production model.

Latest spy images posted by Morebikes.co.uk show two different versions of the KTM 390 Adventure. While these new images do not show a road-biased alloy-wheel version of the 390 Adventure, one of the test bikes in the spy shots is kitted with aftermarket engine bars, rear luggage rack and pillion grab rails at the rear. The other version seems to be a more bare-bones basic version without those extra bits.

The engine seems to be the same unit as the KTM 390 Duke, but we expect the Adventure version to have a different state of tune to have more low- and mid-range torque. Overall power output should be in the region of 44 bhp from the 373 cc single-cylinder engine.

Iconic American motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson has denied reports about its CEO Matt Levatich criticising US President Donald Trump's international trade policy and the ongoing trade war between the European Union and the Trump administration. A tweek, purportedly fake and quoting Levatich as saying that "Trump knows nothing about economics and even less about trade" is fake and falsely attributed to the Harley-Davidson CEO. The US President has been coming down hard on Harley-Davidson for deciding to move production overseas to offset the heavy tariffs imposed by the European Union.

The tweet attributed to Levatich has gone viral and has been retweeted several thousand times, and had quoted Levatich as criticising President Trump for starting a trade war and blamed him for moving Harley-Davidson's production overseas. It's true that Harley-Davidson indeed is blaming the EU tariffs for their decision to move some production overseas. And President Trump did tweet his displeasure with Harley-Davidson for that decision. But the fake tweet did generate a lot of interest on social media, compelling Harley-Davidson to put out a statement via the company's own Twitter handle, calling the quote a complete fabrication.

The issue is with the retaliatory tariffs the European Union has imposed on US goods, including motorcycles which are manufactured in the US and imported into Europe. The EU imposed hefty tariffs on motorcycles after the Trump administration imposed tariffs on steel and aluminium imported into the US. But it's not just Europe which is imposing retaliatory tariffs. Even India has announced retaliatory tariffs which will come into effect from August. Europe is the most important overseas market for Harley-Davidson and last year, the American motorcycle manufacturer sold nearly 40,000 bikes in Europe. The increased taxes are likely to affect Harley's overseas sales.

McLaren 600LT: Lightweight Mid-Engine Track Weapon Unveiled

McLaren has taken the wraps off its newest sports series supercar, the 600LT. Essentially the performance version of the McLaren 570S, the 675LT or Long Tail is the lighter, more aerodynamic, more powerful and more track focused version of the supercar. The new car is 96 kilograms lighter than the standard version and will essentially take on the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and even more powerful cars like the Lamborghini Huracan Performante and the Ferrari 488 Pista. The new McLaren 600LT is currently only available in a coupe bodystyle but we would not discount a spyder version to be released soon.

The McLaren 600LT is longer than the 570S by 73mm and adds a large carbonfibre rear wing in order to add downforce. The front bumper and the rear bumper have been completely reworked in order to get better air flow and more importantly - better downforce and even the exhaust outlets have been repositioned. Where the standard 570S has the exhaust openings in the bumper, the 600LT now has a top mounted exhaust right next to the engine compartment - very similar to the ones found on the Porsche 918 Spyder. The exhaust gas flow will also be directed towards the carbon spoiler to add to the airflow.

McLaren says that 23 per cent of the car is new as compared to the 570S. McLaren Special Operations or MSO has also developed a range of new parts for the 600LT including vented front fenders that help decrease pressure under the front wheels and a carbon fibre roof. The McLaren 600LT with all the lightweight parts added in is just 1247 kg (dry weight) making it one of the lightest track focused supercars out there.

The weight saving continues on the interior with a set of lightweight carbonfibre racing seats that were originally fitted to the McLaren P1 or alternatively, an even lighter fixed racing seat that is currently available in the McLaren Senna. The engine stays the same - a 3.8-litre V8 motor that now makes 592 bhp of peak power and 620 Nm of peak torque. Although official 0-100 kmph timings have not been revealed, it is likely to be under the 3-second mark as the standard 570S does the same run in just 3.2 seconds. The McLaren 600LT will only be available for one year and will have a very limited production run.

Bajaj Auto To Start Local Assembling KTM Motorcycles In Indonesia

The Bajaj Auto and KTM partnership have yielded positive results for both brands and the Indian two-wheeler major plans to expand it further with the Indonesian market. Expanding its global presence, Bajaj Auto has said that it will be setting up a local assembly facility in Indonesia by the end of this financial year. The new facility will act as a CKD production plant for KTM motorcycles that are already on sale in the South East Asian country. The Austrian bike maker entered the Indonesian market last year through Bajaj Auto's 100 per cent subsidiary PT. Bajaj Indonesia, and the bikes have been met with a good response, which has prompted Bajaj to expand with a CKD production site in the country.

In a note in the 2017-18 annual report, Bajaj Auto stated that, "The plan for PT. Bajaj Auto Indonesia is to spearhead the development of KTM and Bajaj partnership and bring the jointly developed products into Indonesia. To take this further, all the required manufacturing, import and business licences have been renewed. Further, studies on the product acceptability have been conducted, which look favourable."

KTM retails a range of offerings in Indonesia including the KTM 200 Duke, 250 Duke and the 390 Duke; apart from the RC range including the 200, 250 and 390 motorcycles. All the bikes arrive in the country as Completely Built Units (CBUs) for now from the Bajaj-KTM facility in Chakan that acts as a global export hub. The manufacturer is in the process of getting clearances for starting local assembly in Indonesia with plans to start operations by year-end.

"In addition, CKD configurations have been created and the process of seeking clearances for these configurations has started. The Company plans to kick off the business operations for PT. Bajaj Auto Indonesia in the current year with the CKD production in Indonesia," said Bajaj.

Bajaj first entered the Indonesian market in 2005 in collaboration with erstwhile partner Kawasaki and launched the Pulsar range in the country. However, the operations failed to pick up as hoped and the company incurred losses over the years.

Routine business operations of PT. Bajaj Auto Indonesia has been stopped at present. Bajaj had written-off its investment in the subsidiary last year to the extent of $39.95 million (about Rs. 260 crore), as a result of the share capital reduction effecting PT. Bajaj Auto Indonesia to the same extendt.

Bajaj in its annual report said, "During the year under review, in order to bring the capital of PT. Bajaj Auto Indonesia in line with its true net worth, PT. Bajaj Auto Indonesia with concurrence of Bajaj Auto Ltd. undertook the reduction of its share capital by writing down the par value of share from USD 100 per equity share to USD 3 per equity share. Consequently, the total paid-up share capital of PT. Bajaj Auto Indonesia got reduced from $ 41,500,000 to $1,245,000, without actual repatriation of funds from Indonesia. Necessary approvals from the regulators in Indonesia and from Reserve Bank of India have been received."

Bajaj rejigged its operations with the KTM brand last year in Indonesia and the orange bikes have been off to a good start. Local assembly will only help sales grow further as prices are brought down and spares become cheaper for the end buyer.

New Range Rover Evoque Interior Spied

Land Rover has been testing the next-generation Range Rover Evoque for quite some time now, as the recent spy shots from the Nurburgring reveal that it is nearing its production stage. While that was a few months back, the next generation Range Rover Evoque was again spotted, but this time, we also get a glimpse of the interiors. However, don't expect major changes on the inside as the company has given minor updates to its existing infotainment system and instrument cluster.

The changes, as we mentioned earlier, are very subtle. For instance, the central touchscreen system sits on top of a larger touchscreen that controls the HVAC functions. It is almost identical and one can be easily fooled with the resemblance. But, Land Rover has redesigned it a bit so that the upper section is flat while the tablet-style huge screen is now more integrated into the dashboard. The instrument cluster too appeared to be the carried forward from the previous generation, however, notice the company's new "hidden-until-lit" switches on the steering wheel. The gear shift too is remarkably similar to the one from the Jaguar E-Pace electric SUV. But, we think that this is just a prototype and the actual production unit will be more distinctive in its appearance.

Visually, the Range Rover Evoque gets an updated front grille, redesigned headlights and the vents seem to be lower than the previous model. The wheels too are carried from the Autobiography trim. Engine-wise, expect the Range Rover Evoque to carry the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a slightly tuned up performance. Moreover, reports also suggest that Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division might just work its magic on the Range Rover Evoque to compete with Mercedes-AMG GLA45 and the Audi upcoming SQ3.
