Yamaha YZF R15 V3 MotoGP Edition Teased; Launch Soon

India Yamaha Motor has teased the much talked about MotoGP edition of the YZF R15 V3 through a short YouTube video. It will just be a new variant of the R15 V3 with motorsport livery inspired from Yamaha's current MotoGP motorcycle, the M1. The R15 MotoGP edition gets a blue and black paint scheme with 'Movistar' and 'ENEOS' logos, who are sponsors for the Yamaha MotoGP team. Also, there is a 'Yamalube' logo on the motorcycle fairing as well. While all details are not out, we expect that MotoGP edition of the R15 will be manufactured and sold in limited numbers. Recently, India Yamaha also increased the price of the standard R15 V3 by Rs. 2,000 which means that the bike now sells for Rs. 1.27 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). One can expect a slight premium in terms of pricing for Yamaha R15 V3 MotoGP edition.

Also Read: Price Of Yamaha YZF R15 V3 Increased By Rs. 2,000

Apart from the colour scheme, we do not expect the bike to have any other changes. The R15 will continue to get the updated 155 cc single-cylinder engine with variable valve actuation (VVA) which makes 19.3 bhp and 15 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox with a slipper assist clutch.

Compared to the international specification R15, the Indian model misses out on ABS, upside down forks in a bid to control the cost. At its current price, the R15 V3 is one of the best entry-level sportbike that you can buy. It will happily do your daily commute and keep you happy on the racetrack as well.

Volkswagen T-Cross Teased Ahead Of Debut; Reveals Cargo Space

The Volkswagen T-Cross is the company's smallest SUV and the company has now teased the car ahead of its launch. But there's some vital information coming out of the teaser video and that's to do with the cargo space on offer. The world premiere will take place in the next couple of months and the month is likely to be October. However, the T-Cross will be launched internationally in 2019 and yes, India is one of the markets where the company will introduce this compact SUV. The company gives out details of the cargo space on offer by allowing professional ice hockey team - 'the Grizzlys Wolfsburg' to throw in all their equipment into the T-Cross.

The T-Cross is based on the modular transverse matrix, or MQB for short, and this is how Volkswagen is able to make more space available. The front axle moves far to the front, thereby lengthening the wheelbase, creating more space in the interior and increasing the available stowage space. The latter is also variable: Depending on the situation, the rear seat bench can be adjusted lengthwise as standard. The company says that the luggage compartment allows storage space of 385 to 455 litres. The back of the rear seat can also be divided (60:40) or completely folded down. This creates a flat loading area and thus even more space of 1,281 litres. The fold-down front passenger seat backrest offers additional flexibility.

ia79esug

The company says that the luggage compartment allows storage space of 385 to 455 litres.

The high seating position in the T-Cross is typical for an SUV: 597 mm at the front and 652 mm at the three seats at the rear; the elevated view from the T-Cross is realised via higher ground clearance and the seat system. At 4107mm long, the T-Cross is a compact SUV for both the rough roads and the urban setting. Volkswagen even goes on to say that the 'T-Cross is entering the market as one of the safest vehicles of its class, guaranteed through excellent crash properties and a large spectrum of assistance systems.' It will come with standard features like an ambient traffic monitoring system) and Lane Assist (lane departure warning system). The T-Cross will be positioned below the Tiguan globally and we have no doubt that it'll make its way to India because well, that's the announcement that Skoda made just yesterday about focus on the MQB platform for the Indian market. The T-Cross is ideal then for the country as it will go up against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and even the Renault Captur.

Mazda Reacts To Allegations About Cheating In Emission Tests

Reacting to the reports that claim Mazda cheated on the emission and fuel efficiency tests, the Japanese car manufacturer has now come out with a statement denying any improper alteration or falsification of the test data. According to the report published by Nikkei Asian Review, the carmaker had allegedly performed the suspect tests "on samples of manufactured vehicles selected during the quality assurance process." However, Mazda now claims that the anomaly in data occurred due to an error and the company did not deliberately cheat in the tests.

Also Read: Suzuki Cheated On Mileage And Emissions Tests

Mazda claims that following government's request to internally investigate the emission and fuel efficiency data collected using the JC08 and WLTC2 testing modes, the company recently submitted its reports on the final vehicle inspections. In the report, Mazda has mentioned it discovered a speed trace errors in the JC08 testing mode, a situation in which the car being tested deviates more than the permitted amount from the pre-established speed trace pattern as described by the test mode. Mazda found speed trace errors in 72 cases out of 1,472 vehicles that were tested under the JC08 testing mode.

Also Read: Nissan Admits To Falsifying Emissions Data

The carmaker claims that it has identified two reasons for these errors. One, the system was not set up to automatically invalidate results when a speed trace error occurred, or two, the test procedures left the determination of speed trace errors up to each individual inspector. Mazda says that it re-examined the data and the results show there was no effect on-specification fuel economy and emission figures. The company says that no such cases were found in WLTC mode testing.

Mazda says that it accepts the fact that errors were made, but says it was only on a small number of tests and claims that the situation was identified and the company has taken measures to avoid them from happening again. In order to ensure that Mazda says that it will update the systems to automatically treat test results as invalid in the event of a speed trace error. Additionally, Mazda has also increased the number of employees who check inspection data, including speed trace errors.

Government Approves Digilocker; Soft Copies Of Driving License, Registration Now Legal

In a bid to encourage digitalisation, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a notification that a digital copy of documents such as driving license and a vehicle's registration, insurance etc. which are stored in Digilocker or mParivahan mobile app, will now be accepted legally along with the actual physical documents. Also, in accordance with the Information Technology Act of 2000, digital copies accessed from the Digilocker will be treated as original documents as well. The rule has been made effective immediately across India. Bihar along with Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka were the first states to accept documents on Digilocker as legal documents. All states and union territories have been notified to accept driving licenses and vehicle documents through the Digilocker or mParivahan app.

What you need to make it work is just the Digilocker or the mParivahan app and authenticate the same with your Aadhaar number. Afterwards, you will have to enter your driving license number, registration documents etc. and save them in the app. Whenever called upon to show the documents by traffic cop, for example, all you have to do is show the authorities the QR code and they will get the details.

Also, in case the vehicle needs to be impounded for any reason, the authorities can simply access the government's Vahan or Saarthi database through the eChallan system and not need to seize the actual documents of the car or the person in question.

The step was taken after the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways received a number or RTIs and grievances saying that the documents produced digitally were not accepted or considered valid by the traffic police or the motor vehicle department.

Any data with regards to the insurance of new vehicles and also renewal of insurance will also be uploaded by the Insurance Information Board (liB) on the Vahan database on a daily basis now and it will be reflected on the mParivahan and eChallan app of the Ministry. If the vehicle registration details on the mParivahan and eChallan app contain the details of the policy which is in-force, then the requirement of a physical copy of the insurance certificate will not be enforced either.

Elon Musk Considering Taking Tesla Private

In what kicked off a great storm last night, Elon Musk, the superstar CEO of electric automaker Tesla has tweeted out that he is considering taking the company private as compared to the public entity that it currently is. In his tweet, Elon Musk offered to pay $420 for each share of the electric mobility company, which is incidentally trading at just under $380 a share. Immediately following the tweet, trading of the stock was suspended but not before it sore to a higher price than what it had been trading at through the day - over $21 in a single day! Elon Musk has also confirmed that he has already sorted funding for this buyout.

While initially people assumed that this was a joke with the figure '420', which is a reference to a popular the drug Marijuana, which is now legal in some parts of the United States. However, that was quickly brushed aside as Elon wrote an email to all Tesla employees explaining why he wanted to make the move from a public to a private company. Incidentally, at $420 a share, and with 199.79 million shares in the market today, the overall value of Tesla would be about $71.31 Billion.

In his email, Elon Musk told his employees, "I fundamentally believe that we are at our best when everyone is focused on executing, when we can remain focused on our long-term mission, and when there are not perverse incentives for people to try to harm what we're all trying to achieve."

Elon Musk has also gone on to give the option of being a private share holder to the current share holders of the company and the same has also been extended to all his employees, all of who are also share holders in their own right. He went on to say, "Basically, I'm trying to accomplish an outcome where Tesla can operate at its best, free from as much distraction and short-term thinking as possible, and where there is as little change for all of our investors, including all of our employees, as possible."

Elon Musk also clarified that this move had nothing to do with him wanting to completely control the whole company. His email also stated that his current control of Tesla was valued at about 20 per cent and this would more or less remain the same once the privatisation took place. With the Tesla Model 3 making waves, which production issues finally at an end and with the new Tesla Model Y compact SUV just around the corner, there is no denying the fact that the automaker, and Elon Musk both have a great future ahead.

Tata Tigor With Larger Touchscreen Infotainment System Spied

The Tata Tigor has managed to pick up decent numbers in the segment and it now seems Tata Motors is looking to add more value to its smallest subcompact sedan. A Tigor test mule was recently spied testing with a larger touchscreen infotainment system onboard. While the company hasn't made announcements yet, the new 6.5-inch touchscreen system just might replace the existing 5-inch unit on the range-topping XZ (O) grade. The subcompact sedan rivals including the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and the Hyundai Xcent already offer these features on their respective top-of-the-line trims.

The new touchscreen infotainment system is likely to be the same unit as the one found on the Tata Nexon. However, the test mule integrates the display in the same space as the previous unit, and does not get the floating treatment as the Nexon. The 5-inch display offered a host of features including Bluetooth connectivity, and smartphone pairing.

(The 6.5-inch touchscreen display is likely to be the one that's also seen on the Tata Nexon)

Meanwhile, the 6.5-inch display adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as part of the feature list, along with navigation. The current unit is dependent on the smartphone to access a host of features, and could move down to the entry-level variants. It's not clear if Tata will be introducing the larger touchscreen system as part of a festive update or will reserve the same for the car's mid lifecycle change. Nevertheless, the additional feature is sure to make the Tigor more lucrative in the segment. That said, it could be likely that the new Tigor JTP edition that has been caught testing multiple times could feature the larger infotainment display.

The car comes with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard, while the petrol also gets an AMT unit. Both engines come with Multi-Drive modes allowing to toggle between City and Eco. Prices for the Tata Tigor start at Rs. 4.84 lakh for the XE petrol, going up Rs. 7.19 lakh for the range-topping XZ (O) diesel.

Tata Harrier SUV Spotted Testing; To Be Launched In 2019

Tata Motors recently announced the name of its new SUV that's all set to be launched in India. It's to be called the Harrier and is all set to be launched in 2019. The company is already testing the car extensively and another camouflaged unit was spotted recently. Built on the company's all-new OMEGA platform, the production version of the H5X SUV will come in both five-seater and seven-seater option, and judging by the size of it, this one could be the former.

Visually, the prototype Tata H5X is still covered in heavy camouflage, however, we do get to see the headlamps of the car now, which look sleek. In fact, we get a close look at them and understand that it gets a set of projector headlamps and they're placed high up on the bumper. There's also a pair of round fog lamps which one can see located below the headlamps. The Harrier also has a V-shaped radiator grille which brings out a different character of the car altogether and the wide air dam below it gives the SUV a meaner look.

The rear of the Harrier SUV sees wrap around tail lamps

We've seen the flared wheelarches on the concept as well and the production unit continues to get them as well. 5-spoke alloy wheels are part of the package too while there are a bunch of changes made to the rear as well. From what we can make out, the tail lamps are slimmer and there's an integrated roof spoiler as well.

The Harrier SUV will be a 5-seater and yes, the company is working on a 7-seat version too. We expect the car to come with the Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel unit making 140 bhp and it's likely to come in both the manual and automatic transmission

Force India F1 Team Future Secured, Marks End Of Vijay Mallya Era

The Force India F1 team, which was under deep financial trouble and went into 'administration' last month has now been 'rescued'. The Force India team will now be backed by a group of investors that will be led by Lawrence Stroll, father of current Williams F1 driver Lance Stroll. The F1 team will retain all its 405 employees at their Silverstone headquarters including the team's chief operations officer Otmar Szafnauer and senior management. The team was put under administration in July following legal recourse is taken by current Force India driver Sergio 'Checo' Perez in order to counter wind down or winding-up petitions that were initiated in a court of law by other creditors that were owed money. This officially marks the end of Vijay Mallya's 10-year reign in the team and most likely, in F1 as a whole.

Also Read: Will Do All To Save Force India: F1 Boss Ross Brawn

Commenting on the big announcement, Force India Chief Operations Officer Otmar Szafnauer said: "This outcome secures the future of the Force India team in Formula 1 and will allow our team of racers to compete to our full potential. I am delighted that we have the support of a consortium of investors who believe in us as a team and who see the considerable business potential that Force India has within F1 now and in the future." He also went on to acknowledge the contribution that Vijay Mallya made to the team and the fact that his support helped the team consistently get to a great position (4th in 2017) in the constructor's championship.

Also Read: Force India Formula 1 Team To Continue Operations Amidst Financial Turmoil

That said, troubles are not yet over for the Formula 1 team. The change in ownership still has to be OK'd by the current teams, especially in the matter of annual earnings and winnings from the current positions in the championship. Teams like Williams, Renault and McLaren have also showcased a worry stating that the current Force India team, which is supplied by Mercedes-Benz with engines could end up becoming a Mercedes-AMG B Team, which would, of course, mean a huge advantage for the front-runner.

Also Read: F1: Sahara Force India Team Finds A New Owner

However, the B Team concept isn't a new one - Red Bull has Torro Rosso and even though it isn't official, Ferrari and Sauber's relationship is well known in the paddock. That said, the bigger picture is one of good news as the departure of Force India as a team altogether would have reduced the grid to just 18 cars and 9 teams, which would, of course, be detrimental to the sport as a whole.

BMW Recalls 324,000 Cars In Europe After Korean Engine Fires: FAZ

German luxury carmaker BMW is recalling about 324,000 diesel vehicles in Europe to fix a technical fault that has caused engine fires in South Korea, German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) said.

Production-Spec Kia SP Concept Spotted Testing For The First Time

Kia Motors India unveiled the SP Concept at the Auto Expo 2018 earlier this year, and the production-spec compact SUV will be the automaker's first offering in India. The model is indeed moving closer to the real thing as the South Korean car maker has commenced road trials of the production version of the Kia SP Concept, as per the latest spy shots from its home market. Kia at the unveiling event had said that the road-going version will be closer to the concept, and the camouflaged test mule does resemble closely to the SP Concept.

The SP Concept is yet to be officially christened, but there have been a number of nameplates going around including the Kia Tusker and the Kia Trazor, based on a poll held by the company. The compact SUV will be similarly sized as the popular-selling Hyundai Creta and will most likely be based on the same platform while getting the same internal bits as its Hyundai counterpart does. Kia is a sister concern of Hyundai, so don't be surprised to see common components between cars from both offerings.

That said, the production-spec Kia SP Concept is likely to debut new engines from the Hyundai-Kia stable instead of the existing 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines. Speculations also suggest of a new 1.5-litre petrol engine in the offing, which will get the hybrid treatment from 2023 onwards.

The Kia SP Concept will be produced at the automaker's upcoming facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. Apart from India, the compact SUV will cater to a number of markets globally including South Korea as well. Apart from the Creta, the Kia SP Concept will be taking on a number of offerings in the segment including the Renault Captur, as well as the upcoming Tata Harrier.

Tata Motors To Roll Out 10-12 New Passenger Vehicles In Next 5 Years

Homegrown auto major Tata Motors plans to bring around 10-12 new products in passenger vehicles segment in the next five years, according to a senior company official. The new products, to be developed on two new platforms -- Alpha and Omega, will help the company to have presence in over 90 per cent of the Indian passenger vehicles market.

"In the next five years, the Indian automotive market will continue to evolve with many segments and sub-segments emerging. Our plan is to be present in existing segments and create new ones," Tata Motors President of Passenger Vehicles Business Unit Mayank Pareek told PTI here.

When asked how many new products are planned, he said, "On the two new modular platforms that we have, there could be around 10 to 12 nameplates in the next five years".

Pareek further said, "These new products, which will include variants, could be in existing segments or new ones which we see emerging. These will help us have presence in over 90 per cent of the market".

As part of its streamlining process for turnaround strategy, Tata Motors has already decided to reduce the number of platforms to two for developing the new PVs.

The company will kick off the launch of new products with SUV Harrier in the fourth quarter of the current fiscal.

With the existing PV product portfolio, Tata Motors has presence in around 70 per cent of the market.

Going forward, Pareek said the company plans to develop compact segment vehicles of up to 4.3 meters in length on its Alpha platform, whereas bigger products, including SUVs, will be based on the Omega platform, which is derived from Land Rover for India.

Bajaj Platina Disc Brake Variant Spotted Testing

The Platina has been one of Bajaj's best-selling motorcycles over the years. The Platina is a no-nonsense commuter motorcycle which is quite popular among the rural areas of India thanks to its robust build and low maintenance quality. And now, photographs of a Platina with a disc brake have emerged which leads us to believe that Bajaj could launch a Platina model with a disc brake in the near future. The test mule was spotted in Pune, where Bajaj has its plant. Apart from the disc brake, the Platina also featured a few cosmetic updates which seem to have been inspired from the Discover 125. In fact, the front disc brake on the Platina test mule too seems to be a lift from the current Discover 125.

The Platina test mule a gold-coloured crankcase along with new decals and a new seat cover as well. The other big change is that the test mule is seen having a 125 cc engine. It might be possible that this model is being tested and developed only for exports and might not see a launch in India any time soon.

Currently, the Platina sold in India gets a 102 cc single-cylinder engine which makes a total of 8.1 bhp and 8.6 Nm of peak torque, getting a 4-speed manual gearbox. Currently, the Platina is sold without a disc brake and is one of the more affordable motorcycles from Bajaj with prices starting at Rs. 47,405 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The prices for the Bajaj Discover start at Rs. 51,674 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Geely Mulls $1.9 Billion Revival Plan For Lotus Cars

The Chinese owner of Lotus Cars is considering an investment of at least 1.5 billion pounds ($1.9 billion) to revive the iconic British brand featured in James Bond movies, according to people familiar with the matter.

Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., which also controls Volvo Car Group, plans to add production facilities and research centers for Lotus Cars in the U.K., one of the people said, asking not to be identified because the deliberations are private. Geely is also in talks to increase its 51 percent stake in Lotus with its Malaysian partner Etika Automotive Sdn Bhd., which holds the remainder, another person said.

"Geely is fully committed to restoring Lotus into being a leading global luxury brand," the automaker said in an email, declining to comment further. Calls to the office phone line of privately held Etika Automotive weren't answered.

The investment plan is part of Billionaire Li Shufu's grand vision to take Geely to the forefront of the auto industry rivaling Toyota Motor Corp. and Volkswagen AG. Li's group acquired Volvo in 2010 and spent more than $11 billion to modernize its factories and help turn around the Swedish brand. In February, Li emerged to be the biggest shareholder in German luxury-car maker Daimler AG with an almost 10 percent stake.

Under Geely's proposal, the first phase would involve an expansion of Lotus's Hethel plant with the hiring of 200 engineers, according to one of the people. Later, it plans to set up a second factory in the U.K., potentially in the West Midlands region, and add a new design and innovation center possibly in Coventry, the person said. Two months ago, Geely had committed to a new U.K. design studio in Coventry, Geely said in its email.

The Chinese carmaker is hoping to build Lotus as a luxury nameplate that competes with Porsche and Ferrari.

Lotus, whose cars were featured in the James Bond movies "The Spy Who Loved Me" in 1977 and "For Your Eyes Only" in 1981, has floundered under Proton management since being acquired for 51 million pounds in 1996. In the seven months through July this year, it sold just 145 cars in its home country, with sales falling 25 percent according to registration data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders in London.

Geely acquired the Lotus stake from Proton Holdings Bhd. last year, when it also announced buying 49.9 percent of Proton from DRB-Hicom Bhd., the Malaysian conglomerate controlled by tycoon Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary, who also owns Etika Automotive.

After the acquisition, Li said the priority will be to make Proton and Lotus profitable and to sustain growth while embracing new technology trends of electrification and artificial intelligence. He also said Geely would consider producing Lotus sports cars in China.
